Walk To Remember

Since 2010 John has been involved with the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association's annual fund raising event "Walk to Remember". With the help of the Vero Beach High school cheerleaders last year, John and the girls got the crowd pumped up and ready to take on the beautiful Riverside Park walking trail.

Also in conjunction with the staff at The Brennity, John teaches a water exercise class for those afflicted with Parkinsons on Mondays to accompany their chair based strength training exercises.  These classes are made possible through the Alzheimer and Parkinson Association and provide flexibility and balance training for those in need.

Having been a caregiver for his grandmother for nearly 5 years, John recognizes the fact that those who take care of a loved one ultimately need some sort of exercise to remain strong enough and an outlet of some sort to focus on themselves if for just a few hours a week. Hoping to provide that outlet, John is offering free exercise classes for care givers who register through the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Association. The generosity of the Association's donors make it all possible.   - "You really don't know how much this has helped. Thank you." Through the summer months, John likes to spend the afternoons with the Mardy Fish Children's Foundation helping with basic fitness goals, teaching the game of tennis and sportsmanship development.

On November 20, 2010 the Visiting Nurse Association of Indian River County hosted a 5k fundraising event to help raise funds for their Hospice program. When asked to participate, John along with a group of his clients jumped at the opportunity. The event was a success and brought much needed awareness to the VNA's efforts.

In 2013 and 2014 John was prompted to create a children's shoe drive for the kids at our local Homeless Family Center. The generosity of JAS Fitness clients made it possible to purchase, for two years in a row, over $800 worth of shoes each time.  The kids were all smiles and the lesson it taught John's son was priceless.

On December 6, 2013 the City of Vero Beach kicked off the holidays with  a fun filled family event that included bounce houses, face painting, music, auctions, a boat parade, food and drink as well as a 2 mile foot race. A City Rec Fundraising for Fun Committee was established months prior in hopes of creating an event that would raise funds for keeping the beloved budget stricken Fountains located at the end of Royal Palm Point open for children. John became the  race director and coordinated the route, warm ups and award ceremony. The event was covered by the Hometown News as well as Vero Beach 32963.

In 2009, 2010 and 2011 John graciously accepted the invite to help with the American Cancer Society's walk for breast cancer awareness. With thousands in the crowd each year, John along with other volunteers helped get the crowd pumped and ready to go.
